Reducing the amount of PPVs

By Scott Keith on June 7, 2018

I've often heard the argument that they can't cut back the number of PPVs because they now need to keep people subscribing every month. However if they cut back to a PPV every other month, aren't people way too busy or lazy to keep logging into their WWE account to cancel? Who's going to keep doing that every other month? People will just say “screw it, for $10 I'll just keep the subscription going until the next event”

People also say the writers are way too inept to not have something to build to for 2 months. Ok, whatever matches they were going to put on a shitty 3rd rate PPV that's not happening that month, why not build up those matches to happen on Smackdown that month? Smackdown will be on a major broadcast network. Fox is going to want big matches, especially during football season. Well, there you go.

You then have WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, Money in the Bank, and the Saudi show as your 6 specials a year. Any gimmick matches could be added to those shows to boost them up and be even more special. TLC/HIAC matches at SummerSlam, War Games at Survivor Series, Elimination Chamber at Saudi show. It'd be much more fresh and less rematches on PPVs. The way it should be in the first place.

Save any matches from “B” PPVs for Raw/Smackdown.

Counter argument: They tried it and it didn't work. After the brand split last we got all those brand-exclusive shows where effectively there was two months between shows, and all that happened was the writers spinning their wheels for a month every time because no one knows how to peak a storyline that's longer than four weeks. People argued exactly the same thing as you: “Oh, they'll build to a big match on TV in between!” and in fact that's exactly what didn't happen. Like, shit, just look at Money in the Bank this year, where they had six weeks to come up with a story to tell and instead of anything interesting we've had every combination of singles matches from guys and girls in the ladder matches, so that the involved parties can “build momentum” to a show that effectively has no main event.
Reducing PPVs won't help, they need to build to the ones they have better first.
