What is the point of the cruiserweights anymore?

What is the point of having the cruiserweights on the roster in the WWE? They don't appear on Raw anymore, and 205 Live isn't even advertised on Smackdown like it used to be.
No one can really figure it out. They're off RAW, they don't tour, and they seemingly exist only to fill an hour of TV time on the Network every week. I have no good answer for you.
