Goldberg’s initial WWE run; 2003-2004

Was Goldberg's initial WWE run back in 2003-2004 always supposed to last 1 year, or did he leave his deal early? It always struck me as kind of odd that they would only do a 1 year contract with him at that stage. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.
​Nope, it was always one year, and they were going to reevaluate when it was over. They had to pay him a LOT of money to get him to give up his WCW contract, so it makes sense that it would only be short-term. ​
