Bummermania
By Scott Keith on March 8, 2018
In retrospect, is there a more depressing card than Wrestlemania 6? 18 of the 45 wrestlers or managers are dead and there's 4 matches where all the participants are dead (Dusty & Sapphire with Liz vs. Savage and Sherri is especially sad). Their average age of death was 55 – which driven up by the relatively long lives of Jimmy Snuka, Mr. Fuji, Dusty, and Bobby Heenan – and most were under 50.
I know this is a morbid thing to be looking at, but…I mean…seriously.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug. And keep in mind, a lot of the bigger damage came AFTER the Zahorian steroid scandals forced a clean up of the business! If the government hadn't stepped in and forced Vince's hand, we would probably have ended up with a Kevin Von Erich situation where someone nearly drops dead on live TV due to overdose (pardon me, Oriental spike to the throat) by the mid-90s.
