3-Man Announce Teams
By Scott Keith on March 5, 2018
Why has WWE completely done away with 2-Man broadcast teams? I don’t watch a lot of the product, but it feels like, not only has there not been a 2-man broadcast team in a good 12 years or so but the announce teams change constantly mid-event.
I couldn’t tell you who commentated the last 3 PPVs I’ve watched but I can tell you definitively that, for example, Michael Cole and Tazz commentated Unforgiven 2002, and not just by playing the odds. I can remember whole pieces of verbiage between them. Now, I can’t remember one line from Elimination Chamber outside of the trite cliches that get shoehorned into every show.
Beyond this, isn’t it EASIER to just have 2 guys on Raw and 2 on Smackdown? They’re trying to micromanage everything coming out of these guys mouths while keeping track of the stories. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just have 2 guys to control?
For a guy who’s constantly saying, “We’re telling stories,” it really feels like Vince goes out of his way to make the story as convoluted and forgetable as possible.

Yeah, I’ve never understood it, either. Well, one aspect I do understand, which is that the third member of the team apparently must be a visible minority so Stephanie can promote brand diversity or whatever.
