“Wrestler Is In A Losing Streak” Storyline/Trope

Has the "wrestler is in a losing streak" storyline ever actually worked? The closest I remember it to working was M.V.P. at the end of his losing streak in 2009, turning face and eventually winning the U.S. Title. Other that that, though, I can't recall any hits. You?
We just saw it work with Johnny Gargano.
