Question re:Nakamura
By Scott Keith on January 4, 2018
So, Nakamura comes into WWE/NXT as one of the hottest free agents around. Has an awesome entrance, a great debut match, wins NXT title and all that. Comes to Smackdown and is IMMEDIATELY pegged as just another guy. Nothing about how he has been presented works as a special attraction type of guy. Does the fact that he is doing stupid run-ins and actually wrestling every week have anything to do with that? Would you have booked anything differently with him? Can the big match at Wrestlemania with AJ turn it around for the guy?
I dunno. A lot of it is the booking and treatment, but look, AJ Styles got a good match out of Jinder on TV, so it's not an impossible task. Nakamura didn't even come close, and he hasn't looked like he's cared about doing so outside of a few minor exceptions thus far. You could argue that it's a vicious cycle where they book him shitty, so he cares less, and then they book him shittier as a result. But AJ debuted at the Rumble and then TORE IT UP with Roman Reigns in his initial main event run. That guy earned his WWE title runs. Nakamura is coasting and everyone sees through it, I think.
