Scott Keith and Wrestling
By Scott Keith on April 17, 2017
Hey Scott,
I’m still enjoying the Observer recaps, and I am also enjoying the questions some of your readers send in on some of the different topics in wrestling.
I had a couple questions of my own on two topics that I believe are of interest to you: Scott Keith and Pro Wrestling.
1. What was it that got you interested in pro wrestling in the first place?
2. What was it that got you interested in writing about pro wrestling?
Keep up the great work!
Ok, you strong-armed me into talking about myself!
1. I’ve told this story many times, but basically my dad used to watch Stampede Wrestling and NWA, so it was always kind of on in the background for me. I remember being very resistant to watching when I was a kid, and then for my 12th birthday my mom rented Wrestlemania 2 for the other kids at my party because they were all into it. So I watched that, and then soon after saw Orndorff turn on Hogan, Adonis turn on Piper, and then Savage crushed Steamboat’s throat and I was off to the races.
2. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed this about me, but I tend to be opinionated, and it turns out that the internet is a GREAT place to share opinion, no matter how stupid it was at the time. Basically I was working towards a math degree in University and got bored enough in the computer labs in late 92 that I decided to play around with Usenet, via nn on a Unix box! I searched for “pro wrestling” and sure enough I found rec.sport.pro-wrestling and my mind was BLOWN. Imagine only reading PWI your whole life and then suddenly getting an Observer subscription. I’ve always been a writer, so this was the perfect marriage of interests for me.
