The thing I can’t get over about Shane vs. AJ
By Scott Keith on April 10, 2017
I was rewatching Angle vs Shane at King of the Ring 2001, and what I found refreshing was how Angle was booked to mop the floor with Shane as long as they were grappling.
So, yes, Shane and AJ was much better than expected. And although I thought Shane trading holds with AJ early on was wrestling heresy, if you can look past that, and Shane’s offense, and his selling, then you’ve got something entertaining.
What STILL gets to me is the way the announcers called the match. Rather than going, "HOLY CRAP SHANE IS HANGING WITH AJ THIS IS AMAZING HOW SURPRISING IS THIS," they treated it as a total match of equals, with JBL chuckling that perhaps AJ bit off more than he can chew.
Why was it called that way? What is the possible benefit?
To keep the McMahon family strong, duh.
