IWC Reactions
By Scott Keith on April 8, 2017
I didn’t really get online until 2000ish so I was wondering what the general IWC concencus over the following were:
Hall and Nash quitting the WWF in 1996
Shawn winning his first title in 1996
The original DX
Montreal
Nash ending Goldberg’s streak in 1998
Russo/Ferrera to WCW in 1999
Hall and Nash leaving triggered a reaction of "Well, I wonder how WCW will fuck this one up. Bet we’ll be seeing the Diamond Studd and Vinnie Vegas on Nitro next week."
Shawn winning the belt was mostly a lot of people happy to see it, but also a bit annoyed that it took too long and it was "Shawn and his buddy Jose Lothario" and not the cool underdog Shawn everyone wanted.
The original DX had people losing their minds because it was so different, especially stuff like Hunter’s little inside references and shoot comments.
Montreal was about as divisive and crazy back then as it still is now, with most of the same arguments occurring.
Nash ending the streak was nuclear fire against him, although he did have his defenders.
Russo and Ferrera leaving had people seriously banking on them killing off the WWF and wondering if Vince McMahon could possibly continue on without him. It was pretty amazing. And then the Russo shows in WCW started and people were like "Eh, never mind."
