Why LT at WrestleMania 11?

I’m watching WrestleMania 11 and the selling point is all the celebrity involvement (Pam Anderson, Salt n’ Peppa, JTT, etc.) Out of all the celebrities and/or athletes in the world, how did they zero in on Lawrence Taylor for a big match? Was he a close friend of a wrestler (the storyline is he was friends with Diesel, but can’t take that as truth) or executive? If they don’t get LT, was there any other plans for a non-wrestler involved in a match, or was their backup just HBK/Diesel as the stand-alone Main Event?

​LT was friends with Bam Bam, but the reason he was picked is that WWE exists in a New York-centric vacuum most of the time and assumed that everyone watching the show was both:

a) A football fan
b) A fan specifically of the New York Giants

And thus they grossly overestimated how many people would give a shit about Taylor being in the main event of their biggest show of the year. ​
