Why LT at WrestleMania 11?
By Scott Keith on April 2, 2017
Here’s a change from the endless Roman stinks, Cena needs to turn heel, was Montreal a work question.
I’m watching WrestleMania 11 and the selling point is all the celebrity involvement (Pam Anderson, Salt n’ Peppa, JTT, etc.) Out of all the celebrities and/or athletes in the world, how did they zero in on Lawrence Taylor for a big match? Was he a close friend of a wrestler (the storyline is he was friends with Diesel, but can’t take that as truth) or executive? If they don’t get LT, was there any other plans for a non-wrestler involved in a match, or was their backup just HBK/Diesel as the stand-alone Main Event?
LT was friends with Bam Bam, but the reason he was picked is that WWE exists in a New York-centric vacuum most of the time and assumed that everyone watching the show was both:
a) A football fan
b) A fan specifically of the New York Giants
And thus they grossly overestimated how many people would give a shit about Taylor being in the main event of their biggest show of the year.
