Orndorff at WrestleMania III

We’ve all heard the rumor of Orndorff waiting in the wings at WrestleMania III in case Andre can’t go on. Let’s say that unlikely situation actually happened, and Orndorff had to fill in for the Giant at the last minute. How do you feel that would have played out? Might we have seen a riot at the Silverdome? Would it be the biggest disappointment in WM history? With all else on the show remaining the same, would WM III still have the near universal acclaim it does today with that kind of bait-and-switch?

​I really think that the deal about Orndorff being a last-minute sub option is completely overblown. Andre would have had to be literally incapacitated and unable to even get to the ring in order for Vince to pull that switch. Had they done it, probably they would have put that match on in the middle and closed with Steamboat v. Savage instead. You could have Andre out there literally just long enough for a one minute DQ or something, and then do the Orndorff match because Hogan is so pissed that Mr. Wonderful interfered. Would people RIOT? I doubt it, mostly because at the end of the day they were there to see Hulk and they’d still get him. ​I really don’t see any scenario though, outside of Andre literally dropping dead before the show, where they couldn’t at least cart him out there for any kind of a match.
