Cornette and the Midnights in WWF

Sticking with Cornette/Midnight questions as they have a special place in my heart.

I recall a rumor from an early observer recap that the midnights might have jumped to WWF in the 80s.

How close were they to signing with Vince, and why didn’t it happen?

In addition, if they had jumped, then what do you think their role would have been? Something similar to the Brain Busters when they worked for Vince?
Maybe some fun matches with the Hart Foundation?

​Cornette told the story in his book and many other times, but basically the Condrey/Eaton version of the Express explored the possibility in 86, but never came close to any kind of serious negotiations. I just can’t see them being a good fit anyway at that point. ​
