Savage – Roberts

Really enjoy the flash-backs.
Do you have any insights on why the Roberts – Savage program didn’t draw? You mention Jake just didn’t fit in that position. Why not?
And Savage coming out of retirement also didn’t draw?

​Jake just wasn’t perceived as a main event guy, even with the heel turn and great promos. Not everyone can be. As for the Savage retirement thing, it was complicated in that they weren’t typically advertising Savage as the main event, they were advertising Sid and then subbing in Savage because of their weird commitment to maintaining the storyline on TV of Savage being "suspended" or whatever. It really wasn’t until after Survivor Series that he could even be advertised on those shows, and by then I think it just wasn’t special to see him wrestle since he would have hit the same markets a couple of times before when he was still "retired". By the time we get to 92, the feud with Flair picks Savage up again, at least. ​
