Wrestlemania: No Buys…
By Scott Keith on January 31, 2017
Hi Scott,
I consider myself a lapsed hardcore fan having not watched RAW/Smackdown for a number of years and only watching shows afterwards If I hear something is great. This year that has been mostly AJ Styles matches and the odd NxT Takeover (DIY/Revival~!). I did however go out of my way to watch this year’s rumble because it’s usually the most intriguing show of the year and you can get an idea of where it’s all heading…
…Goldberg/Lesnar
Rollins/HHH
Cena/Orton
Owens/Jericho
Reigns/Taker
Aside from Reigns/Taker which I find intriguing because they could make Reigns an uber heel very easily if he absolutely murders Taker like the geriatric he is. I’m confronted with an assortment of matches with performers that turned me off in the first place (Cena/Orton/HHH/Jericho). Does the WWE not realise that putting on matches with “stars” that have been killing the company’s popularity for years is not the best way to get fans like me back? I mean I can’t be the only person who tunes in for the Rumble to see whether it’s worth coming back? If the Rumble sets up appealing matches then I’ll sign up to the Network at least until after Mania and if that’s a home run I might stick around. But Cena and Orton going over 30 of the roster and it’s best performer on the same night in 2017?! That’s just crazy.
If it makes you feel any better, Bray Wyatt is beating Cena for the title in the Elimination Chamber, so it’ll be Bray v. Orton for the World title at WM at least, not Cena. It’s still unclear what the heck Cena’s doing there.
