NES

With retro being all the rage right now and the success of the NES mini, I was wondering what your favorite games were/are for the original 8-bit Nintendo? And what was the best wrestling game for that system?

​Clearly the best was Pro Wrestling, but there wasn’t much competition.

To be honest though, the NES wasn’t really a huge part of my teenage years or anything. At the point we bought one, I remember playing Duck Hunt and Mario a lot, plus Link’s Adventure (which I beat!) and that awful Wrestlemania game. Almost everything else was rentals because I was like 14 at the time and didn’t have disposable income to build a library of games. So most of my gaming memories came from the SNES/Genesis days once I got a job out of school and could actually buy those systems and my own games for them. I do remember playing a cartridge for the NES with Dr. Mario and Tetris on the same cart, which was pretty sweet, but other than that I don’t have many thoughts. I didn’t really even get into Mario 2 and 3 until the All-Stars versions on the SNES, for example. Knowing what I do about myself now, I’d have thought that Megaman/Castlevania/Metroid would totally be my jam, but it’s not like there was an internet to tell me that those games existed and I’d love them. So I literally never played any of them.

Now of course, for those who have me on Facebook, you all saw what I got for Christmas, so I can finally sit down and play Megaman, but (mumble mumble)-aged Scott doesn’t really have the reflexes with an NES controller that 15 year old Scott would have, so Megaman is kind of lost to me at this point. Dr. Mario is still the bomb, though.​
