Who Drew (WCW Edition)

By Scott Keith on January 12, 2017

I know Flair and Hogan (and probably Goldberg) drew while in NWA/WCW, but what about others?

Dusty Rhodes

In WCW? No. But if you mean in the NWA territories preceding the company, absolutely, for many years.

Lex Luger

He was a little bit of a ratings draw in the Nitro days, but as a singles champion and top guy in 91-92? Definitely not, and in fact business tanked with him on top.

Harley Race

Yes, again in the pre-WCW territory days. But then anyone who got the NWA title pretty much had to be a proven commodity before the belt was given to them.

Kevin Nash
DDP

Uh, no.

Do tag teams ever draw? If so:

Road Warriors

Yes, but only until about 1989. Both WWF and WCW tried to push them as house show main eventers after that point and they did nothing for business. But they absolutely popped houses everywhere they went before then.

Steiners

They were never really put in a position to draw.

Midnight Express

Ditto.

Rock and Roll Express

Ditto. The last three were all typically underneath acts with Flair on top, so you can’t really say one way or another what their drawing power was.

The Four Horsemen in things Flair wasn’t involved in.

Same deal as the tag teams. It’s not like Tully & Arn were doing house show main events without Flair on a regular basis.

How about the cruiserweight division as a whole?

It was never promoted as a top act or put in a position to draw money, so you can’t really say. Rey Mysterio tended to be a ratings draw, but everyone else was up and down.
