Heel vs. Heel matchups

Been staying just ahead of Thomas Hall’s recaps and just watched Unforgiven 2002, and was amazed at the Benoit vs. Angle match. Aside from being great and different, it was a heel vs. heel matchup that the fans over. Has that ever happened before or since? I always having a face in a match was essential to get the fans to invest in a match.

​Yeah, but Kurt Angle is such a natural babyface a lot of the time that he pretty much defaults to that. Plus the styles of both guys are such that fans could essentially choose their own sides and cheer for who they wanted. I’d say it’s less important overall to have a babyface than it is to at least have one character who fans are invested in. Otherwise you just get Roman Reigns going out there to die.​
