Why was Warrior in the Match Made in Hell?
By Scott Keith on December 27, 2016
Hey Scott,
Great job on the Observer Recaps.
Now that we’re getting to the Match Made in Hell, here’s a question that’s been bothering me.
Warrior had a hot program going with the Undertaker, the recaps show it was doing well at the gate.
Why didn’t they run with Warrior-Taker at Summerslam? Why did they shoehorn Warrior into the Match Made in Hell, where he really didn’t belong? What WAS the thinking there?
Also, right before Summerslam was when they finally paid off the awesome "training sessions" vignettes with Jake and the cobra nearly killed Warrior…they had been building this awesome angle, why was there no payoff at Summerslam?
Thanks
I don’t know, that particular match never made much sense to me, either. Especially since the Slaughter/Mustafa team was such a completely dead act, and Hogan & Justice teaming up would have made 100% more sense. Unless there really was a plan to have Warrior turn on Hogan in that match and go heel, but Jake turning heel was clearly the plan.
It was a weird time for booking, I guess.
