Almost the guy
By Scott Keith on December 23, 2016
So who do you think are some of the biggest "could have been the number one guy if it weren’t for _______" guys? Guys that were just right there but didn’t quite make it past whoever was juuuust a little better?
Well, Randy Orton has to be up there for getting screwed over TWICE, first by doing his big babyface turn in 2004 when people wanted Batista, and then for years afterwards by floating around the top of the card when people saw Cena as the bigger star.
I think Superstar Graham was a big one in the 70s, because he should have been champion for YEARS but wasn’t a bigger star than Bruno or Backlund at the time and thus couldn’t keep that spot.
The Fantastics had the misfortune of having to follow the Rock N Roll Express in most territories they hit, which pretty much killed them as a drawing act on their own.
Any number of guys were supposed to take over for Flair over the years and no one ever could.
