Bushwhackers/Rougeaus
By Scott Keith on December 17, 2016
Hey Scott–
So, most of us know the Rougeau v. Bulldog story; Dynamite gets pissed at Jacques for an (alleged?) prank, punks him out, Jacques punks Kid out with a roll of quarters to the face, Rougeaus get eliminated early at Survivor Series ’88, Bulldogs have to work entire match, are soon gone from the company.
What’s not talked about is the aftermath for the Rougeaus staying in the company. I look at WrestleMania V, and Jacques and Raymond are doing a bad comedy match with the Bushwhackers. Fast-forward 10 months later… and the Rougeaus are doing a bad comedy match with the Bushwhackers at Royal Rumble ’90.
Do you think this may have been some warped punishment cooked up by Vince as retaliation for the nastiness with the Bulldogs? Book the Rougeaus with the ‘Whackers endlessly until they quit? Or, during the golden age of tag teams in the WWF, was this the ultimate version of "creative has nothing for you" that both teams had no one else they could be programmed with?
No, it was nothing that diabolical, it was more that Jacques was constantly wanting to quit and go back to Montreal, so Vince would never put them in a position of any importance.
