Hogan’s Replacement – Blog Question

By Scott Keith on December 15, 2016

Hi Scott

Reading The Observers it occurred to me that in 90/91 Vince seems absolutely desperate for a ‘new Hogan’ – firstly with Warrior and then later with Sid.

My question is…with the numbers he was pulling in with Warrior and the fact they were already talking about turning him face…was there ever any real talk of making Undertaker the next Hogan?

And if not why not?

They were obsessed with making a new Hogan because Hulk wanted to be a movie star and they needed someone else to draw on top while he was away. At this point, Undertaker couldn’t talk at all, and would be completely exposed doing anything more than what he did in the ring or character-wise, so I don’t think he was in any kind of discussions as top guy in 1991. Dave did mention that there was plans to program him with Hogan at a non-WM PPV show, but they didn’t see him as anything more than a Hogan challenger, I don’t think. Sid was the absolutely the guy they wanted to be the next Hogan, though.
