LA Memorial Coliseum vs. Hoosier Dome

By Scott Keith on December 6, 2016

Hi Scott,

Reading your Observer recaps about how badly ticket sales went for WM VII in the Memorial Coliseum really brought home how bad business was for the WWF in 1991. With that in mind, what were they possibly thinking when they booked the Hoosier Dome for Wrestlemania VIII the following year? The decision must have been made shortly before or after the WM 7 attendance debacle. Did they know Sid was in the bag and figure a Hogan-Sid main event would turn business around? (Vince loves big guys…). Or was this simply a blind stab in the dark and they wound up getting bailed out by having two of WCW’s biggest stars (Sid, Flair) fall in their lap as free agents?

Obviously they didn’t know about Flair until July, and they would have needed to book the building well before then, so I’m guessing it was a stab in the dark. Remember that they were going to run LA Coliseum all the way up until the very end of January, when they finally had to admit defeat and cancel, so you can bet Vince wanted to avenge that.

But hey, we’ll get to that point soon enough anyway!
