Recycled 1985 angles
By Scott Keith on December 3, 2016
Been watching some 1985 stuff on the Network and two angles come to mind that could use a modern day resurrection.
1. The Bob Orton cast. Bring back the heel who wrestles with a cast, uses it to win matches, and claim his arm is slow healing. This would be good for someone like Miz or some other chickenshit heel.
2. The Bobby Heenan puts a bounty on Paul Orndorff angle. Paul Heyman comes out and puts a large bounty on Goldbergs head for what he did to Lesnar at Survivor Series. Every week, whether in the ring or backstage, someone different attacks Goldberg, in an attempt to cash in on the bounty. Of course Goldberg destroys them. Start out with a bunch of ham and eggers and eventually move up the foodchain. Eventually Lesnar comes back to cash in. They have their rematch at Wrestlemania, Heyman turns on Lesnar and sides with Goldberg. Boom. Double turn. Count the money!
Of course it requires Goldberg to appear more than once every 2 months. OK that’s enough. Back to my ***** Uncle Elmer match!
You really need to track down some Memphis stuff if those angles float your boat, because that’s where it ALL came from. The heel with the fake long-term injury and the manager putting a bounty on the babyface is stuff that’s been around for DECADES and particularly effective in the south. The bounty thing I can’t see these days because it would imply that someone other than a McMahon family member has money and doesn’t need to grovel for their job, but the fake cast is always a classic and can be recycled ad nauseum without ever getting old.
