Pat Patterson, Accepted (as a worker?)

By Scott Keith on November 18, 2016

Hello Scott, hope you are doing well. NOT a first time writer, of course, but over a decade of reading – in fact, I recently reread my favorite Scott Keith book, Tonight… In This Very Ring and my only complaint was it’s length – I wanted more! 😊

I do have a question about something you reference in the book but don’t have it with me. So instead I will ask a question inspired by another book – Pat Patterson’s autobiography, Accepted!

Despite reading you since I was a teenager, I cannot recall every reading your opinion on Vince’s light-haired stooge as an in-ring talent. Was he a good worker? Bad? A skilled brawler? A technical master? A bumbling proto-Sylvain Grenier?

Any comparisons you could make with someone more famous to fans unfamiliar with pre-90s wrestling? I’m greatly enjoying his book thus far and would love the perspective of my favorite wrestling writer/critic.

Hey, it may sound like sucking up, but it’s true! Thanks for the perspective, and all the jokes.

Pat was a GREAT worker who sadly was mostly before my time in the ring. But yeah, he had the awesome brawl with Slaughter, the cage match with Backlund, and tons of great tag matches. He wasn’t like a top level draw at the box office or anything outside of certain areas, but I can’t say as I’ve ever seen a BAD Patterson match, so that’s something.
