Best years
By Scott Keith on November 18, 2016
Scott – I’ve watched almost all of 1997 WWE on the network. One thing I’ve noticed is how Shawn Michaels is just on fire that year. The year started out rocky with a so-so match against Sid at the Rumble, and then the infamous lost my smile speech……..but once he comes back from that he’s red hot the rest of the year.
He has an amazing match teaming with Austin against Owen and Bulldog, then a great match against Austin at King of the Ring. Then later in the summer he starts his heel turn and feud with the Undertaker that produced great matches. Throw in a great match against Mankind on raw in August, the fact that he’s drawing nuclear heat, and he forms DX and changes the business!!!
Is it to much to say that 97 HBK is one of the best single years a wrestler has ever had???
If it’s not than what is???
Austin in 98?
HHH in 2000?
Flair
Hogan?
Depends what your criteria is, I guess. I’d still say Flair in ’89 (three five-star matches with Steamboat, a couple with Funk, lots of four star matches) but if you’re also including box office than you have to go with Hogan in 86 or 87.
