WWE #1

Just wanted to throw a quick plug out there for the rather shocking quality of WWE #1 (or I guess WWE Then Now Forever #1 because it’s a one-shot) done by Boom Studios.

I actually picked it up while grabbing my weekly pile of DC Rebirth titles at the comic store, because it was sitting there all alone and I thought it would be wonderfully terrible. Turns out, it’s actually pretty good. There’s a main story featuring the Shield in 2014, told from the perspective of Seth Rollins as it attempts to actually give the turn some backstory and it’s much better than whatever the writers ever came up with. Plus there’s a BBQ on top of the production trucks, which is fun. The dialogue and banter with the Shield is really well written and again much better than whatever the hacks today write for them. There’s also a backup story drawn by Rob Guillory of Chew featuring the New Day as camp councillors, and that’s about as great as you’d expect. Plus a bunch of one-page features on different guys as teasers. I actually got my $4 worth out of it, believe it or not. Believe it or not, I’m gonna add WWE #1 to my pull list in January.
