Wrestler as a Booker

By Scott Keith on October 22, 2016

When you have a full time wrestler as a booker, it’s an inherent conflict of interest because history has shown that these bookers book themselves to go over (Dusty, Nash booking himself to go over Goldberg). Are there any examples of full time wrestlers as bookers who were actually selfless in their role as a booker and didn’t feel the need to constantly book in their best interest?

Kevin Sullivan spent most of 1995 booking himself to get beaten up by Hogan night after night, but he wasn’t in complete control of the company or anything. I also think Flair was pretty fair in how he booked himself in 89. Jerry Lawler in Memphis didn’t usually make himself the overwhelming superman and did plenty of jobs.

But no, otherwise companies tend to avoid using full-time guys as bookers, precisely for the reason you pointed out. It’s an inherent conflict of interest.
