Greatest Successful Title Defenses
By Scott Keith on October 15, 2016
Everyone makes a big deal out of title changes and the highlights of them are shown over and over, but if this was all real, a successful title defense would be a big deal too. So from a kayfabe standpoint, what are some of the greatest title defenses of all-time? Hogan over Andre at WM3 seems like the definitive one. But what else? I nominate Austin over Dude at Over The Edge ’98; formidable challenger, deck stacked against the champion, great match. But what are some others?
Austin over Undertaker at Summerslam 98 was pretty big, since Taker had a legit shot at winning the belt there. HHH becoming the first heel to retain at WM 2000 was also big. Punk had a lot of them, because it always seemed like each big title defense was going to be last once they woke up and took the title off him. The TLC match against Cena and Del Rio immediately comes to mind.
