90s Brand Split

By Scott Keith on October 5, 2016

Hey Scott,

So having read the Observer flashback for WMVI and seeing (remembering) how many matches (albeit short) were on that card, and how there was a focus on Hogan and Warrior headlining different shows as top draws… would a brand split have worked, or even been worth thinking about at the time? Hogan tops the Superstars brand, Warrior tops the Challenge brand… Realistic business model for the time, or pointless retroactive fantasy booking?

Keep up the great work!

I’m not sure that it would work, since the split was created as a response to competition disappearing, as a way to artificially create some. If you do it in 1990, all you’re doing is needlessly diluting the product during a time when they actually were in competition with multiple companies. Plus the A show and B show split was effectively doing the same thing anyway.
