Billed height and weight

By Scott Keith on April 23, 2016

Hey Scott,

Just curious, but who decides what the worked height/weight for wrestlers is? Is it the wrestler themselves? Creative? The announce team? The booker? Throwing a dart at a board? I used to think that they added 20-30 pounds and 2 inches to each guy and that was that, but it seems that instead if you’re a cruiser they’ll use your real weight, if you’re an average wrestler they’ll fudge a little bit and if you’re a heavyweight they’ll give you 50 pounds and half a foot.

I’m mostly asking cause right now it’s getting absurd. Finn Balor is apparently 20 pounds lighter than Austin Aries, And AJ Styles is only 14 pounds lighter than Antonio Cesaro.

I guess I’m asking if anybody has ever bought a ticket because Undertaker is 300 pounds or Chris Jericho was over six feet tall? Are worked heights an important part of the wrestling ‘experience’ or are they more like fake attendance records, something there to boost the ego of the promoter/talent?

I know Vince sometimes gets a bug in his ear about things like heights and weights, and sometimes it’s for specific purposes like with Big Show or Big Cass or other people with Big in their name. I think generally the agents just kind of decide and they probably have some intern who gets to keep track of it and print out flash cards for the ring announcers at shows.
