What if WWF had brought in Luger at WM 7…wait, never mind.

What was the thinking behind pushing Sgt. Slaughter to the main event at WM 7? Why not do a rematch between Warrior and Hogan? Why not do Hogan-Savage II? Wouldn’t both of those been better than what we got?

​The thinking was that Slaughter was an American hero and they could exploit the Gulf War to draw a buyrate. Didn’t work, but that was the thought process. Really, the choices for that kind of role would be Slaughter or Jim Duggan, so be thankful I guess.

And Warrior-Hogan was considered internally to be a disappointment from a business standpoint, and of course Warrior was a complete flop as champion, and he wasn’t gonna turn heel, so that wasn’t an option. And Savage was a midcard joke as Macho King, so that wasn’t gonna happen. So you got Slaughter. ​
