Ratings Lightning Round
By Scott Keith on March 5, 2016
Long time, first time blabla. Love the observer rants. Here are somet ratings based lighting rounds for you. It’s probably been a while since you’ve seen these, but today how would you rate:
1. Benoit v HHH v HBK wm20
Still *****. I’ve watched it several times since then, it’s still great.
2. Steiners v Sting/Luger superbrawl
Ditto. I’ve seen it a million times for comp tape purposes and it remains one of my all time favorite tag matches.
3. Punk v Cena (raw 2013)
I don’t see how my opinion would have changed much, but a grade TV matches on a much easier curve than PPV ones. I had it at ****3/4 originally and that’s likely where it still is.
4. Flair v Vader Starrcade
I had been mostly driven off WCW by the stupid booking at this point, so this match didn’t really hold much nostalgia value for me. I’ve seen it several times and it’s a ****1/4 match for me.
5. Steamboat vs Rude iron man
I still love this one, a totally different type of Iron Man match and still effective at 30 minutes. ****1/2 easy.
6. Joe vs Daniels vs Styles (both of their classics)
I had one at ***** but I have no idea if there was another one or what I might have rated it.
7. Shawn v Razor (1 and 2)
Seen both a million zillion billion times and my ratings aren’t likely to change ever again. ***** for the first one, ****1/2 for the second.
8. War games 91
***** all the way, one of the best matches in the history of wrestling.
9. Shawn v Taker wm26
Again, I’ve seen it a bunch of times, and it’s still a ***** classic.
10. Based on his ratings, the best WWE title match of all time is either Bret v. Owen in the cage, or Punk v Cena mitb11. Agree? If not what it.
Bret/Owen was the best cage match based on the limited scope and rules of a WWF cage match, but I wouldn’t say it was the best title match of all time by a longshot. There’s definitely a strong case to be made for Punk v. Cena for a lot of reasons, or maybe Cena v. Bryan from Summerslam which many people also had at *****. You could also argue the Royal Rumble 92 or the Shawn-Mankind match at Mind Games.
