Injury Question
By Scott Keith on February 2, 2016
Hey Scott,
Long time follower, infrequent emailer. I just wanted to get your thoughts on something that was bugging me. With this latest rash of injuries, they’ve had some guys on screen like Barrett and ADR but just not get physically involved. My question is if they’re able to fly from city to city and still look like they’re in great shape, how injured can they really be? Isn’t this the same industry that frowns upon people not working hurt? Obviously, protection is the safest and best way to go about this, but just feels weird.
It’s actually a legal thing. WWE adheres very closely to the medical advice of their doctors because they’re understandably gunshy about lawsuits, so if the doctors say that Alberto Del Rio is injured, then he’s not allowed to compete, period. It’s part of the Wellness Policy and being a public company, because no one wants another Eddie Guerrero or Chris Benoit situation, or god forbid someone actually dying in the ring from some injury that James Andrews taped up and advised working through. Not to pick on Andrews, who is a wonderful doctor I’m sure, but I’m actually all for keeping guys out of the ring until you know they’re 100% cleared.
