Hogan v Flair, LOD v Demo same card
By Scott Keith on November 1, 2015
I was just kicking back & reading your old reviews of Wrestlemania 7 & 8, and holy shit there is a ton of fire power fire between the both of them. We get Hogan v Justice, Warrior v Savage, Piper v Hitman, and Savage v Flair, all the closest thing to "Dream Matches" as we’ll ever see.
Filling the rest of the cards are legit legends like Perfect, Dibiase, Bulldog, Von Erich, Martel, Hart Foundation, Demolition, Slaughter, Roberts, HBK & the Undertaker. That’s a lot of beef.
My question is, Wrestlemania 8 clearly should’ve been Hogan v Flair hyped as first time ever, but could it also have been Demolition v L.O.D. hyped as the same thing? I remember LOD getting the podium interview, so why not a match, as Demo was still a team at WM7? That could’ve been one historic card.
Secondly, if not at WM8, timing wise with Demo breaking up & L.O.D. arriving, when was the best chance to get Hogan v Flair & L.O.D. v Demolition on the same PPV card?
Your timelines are way off, bro. Flair came into the WWF in October of 1991, and Demolition was completely done as a team after Wrestlemania VII. Ax was long gone before even then, so there was literally no time where you could have done those matches on the same show. I mean, there was certainly times in the post-Crockett era of 88-91 where Flair was threatening to jump ship, but the Road Warriors were locked into big money long-term contracts and weren’t going anywhere.
What we DID almost get was the Midnight Express jumping to the WWF with Jim Cornette during the heyday of the Harts/Bulldogs/Demolition tag team era, and that would have made some incredible matchups to be sure.
