Foreign Wrestlers That Should Have Been Bigger
By Scott Keith on October 7, 2015
Scott:
There is a mentality that if a wrestler doesn’t speak English he can’t get over, but I think this is BS. There are guys that could have gotten over, but as is usually the case the booking wasn’t there. Who do you think are some Foreign workers who could have gotten over despite not speaking English?
Mine:
Tajiri – Had some really cool moves, good worker, and had GREAT facial expression to sell what he was doing. I think he really should have had a dominant IC run.
La Parka – Dude was getting face heat as a heel in WCW with his goofy dancing and dasterdly deeds with the chair. A good example of a gimmick so odd and silly that it connected with the audience.
Sure, there’s been lots I can think of:
Yoshi Kwan – A great martial artist, who took Cactus Jack to the limit and then disappeared into the mysterious Orient from which he emerged.
Kato – After he took over for Akio Sato in the Orient Express he probably should have become a star on his own thanks to his look, but he was obviously unable to connect with the audience due to the language barrier.
The Berzerker – It’s hard to get a storyline over when all you can say is “Huss”. Why wouldn’t you learn to speak English before coming over from Norwegia?
Ahmed Johnson – Clearly he was speaking SOME language, but none I’ve ever heard.
