Ads

The recent question about WWE and beer advertisement reminded me of a blurb from one of the lawsuits against WWE for allegedly lying about their business in regard to their stock price. One of the allegations was that they refused to place any in ring advertisements which potentially costs WWE a lot in revenue. So why would Vince be against in ring advertisements (feeling that they devalue the presentation) yet willfully do these terrible product placement skits where everyone comes off looking like idiots? UFC and New Japan both use them and it just seems like a much better way to make money than bringing in pedophiles to serve footlongs to Sandow. Although, it could be the advertisers who are against it because of Kevin Dunn’s shaky cam makes it impossible to see the ads.
You will also note that they have no problem turning the ring pink to advertise for a crooked cancer research charity, so clearly the devaluing of the presentation isn’t an issue if the price is right. I think it’s more likely that none of the sponsors have offered enough money and Vince’s "moral" stance against it is his way of saving face. Hell, they could even just make the ring green and do that green-screen overlay thing that the NFL does on the field.
