Vince McMahon and Beer
By Scott Keith on September 27, 2015
Scott,
Does Vince McMahon have something against beer? For as long as I can remember, the WWE has never had any beer companies as sponsors. Granted, the Steve Austin character was closely tied to beer, but that was mainly during the Attitude Era and WWE hasn’t had a character like that before or since (and that was somewhat of an organic thing anyway). I’m just wondering because if you watch a football game, or any other "sporting" telecast that is supposed to appeal to men, you see tons of beer sponsors (along with commercials for cars, trucks, financial institution, boner pills, etc), but you don’t see anything like that when you watch wrestling. Is that a Vince McMahon thing or is that simply because wrestling doesn’t attract the same sorts of sponsorships? Or did Vince McMahon have an abusive, alcoholic stepfather or something, which explains his aversion to promote beer?
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
Beer is doing just fine on its own without needing to lower itself to sponsoring wrestling. Plus there’s regulations about advertising to children, I’m pretty sure. Me, I say it toughens them up, but then I’m Canadian.
