The Next Big Thing?

Hey Scott,

Love reading the rants from the ’90’s, which seems like the last golden age of wrestling. I haven’t watched the product in quite a while, and frankly from reading the site, there seems to be no reason to start. My question is whether or not there is anyone on the horizon that will be able to move the meter for a casual fan in the way that Austin and The Rock were able to.

It seems that the WWE’s method of booking would prevent that from ever happening. Brock wasn’t able to do it and I can’t see Cena being able to do it, regardless whether they make him a heel. Also, with there only being one company (I’m not even entertaining ROH or whatever dud Jeff Jarrett is spitting out), you don’t have that initial hype that comes with seeing someone the fan base is at least familiar with popping up (like when Benoit, Guererro and Malenko popped up on Raw).

Is there anyone out there you can ACTUALLY call the Next Big Thing?​​

I still feel like Finn Balor is the best shot at it, but Cesaro should have been a giant star by now as well based on the Andre Battle Royale and they keep cutting him off at the knees. So I honestly don’t know if anyone is even able to break through at this point without getting 50/50’d by Vince or just getting sick of the bullshit and leaving like everyone else has done.
