The Patriot

I’ve been watching some 97 Raws around when the Patriot debuted, and he was only in the company for about 3 months before he was injured and never seen from again. They started him out hot with a pinfall win over Bret Hart. What do you think his role would have been had he not been injured? He and Vader were teaming, and I kinda see a role for them as a regular tag team, or he could have taken Owen’s feud with HHH (freeing Owen up to go to WCW, or something else). Or would the Patriot just have been Russoed to death, turning heel and becoming the Iraqi Patriot or something equally ridiculous.

​Patriot was always just a short-term thing, given his age and limited appeal as a character. They brought him in for the Bret deal and I don’t think anyone was under any illusions that he was sticking around as a top guy afterwards. Probably he would have ended up like his role in WCW, teaming with a midcard guy as a solid tag team, like with a Bob Holly or Al Snow or something like that. ​
