Brian Lee/SMW

As I continue to watch SMW, I figured I send some questions since you did indeed watch the product and enjoyed it. I’m at the point where Brian Lee and Tammy Fytch are a duo and Lee just won the SMW Heavyweight Championship. I’ve noticed that on SMW TV and in some PWI magazines, that Lee was being promoted as some kind of star that WWF and WCW would be smart to pickup on. I know Lee was the fake Taker at SummerSlam, but was this a common thing? Did a lot of people see Lee as a star? As a babyface he seemed really lame, but he did have some personality with Tammy by his side.

What did you think of Lee in SMW and the Tammy angle?

​Tammy was AMAZING in her SMW role, way beyond what her age at the time would have suggested. Even by the time she got to the WWF it was really watered down. Early on she portrayed the super-bitch mean girl better than anyone else ever had in wrestling.

As for Lee, he was one of those guys who was all potential and no payoff. Both WWF and WCW always sniffed around him because of his size, but he had a couple of tryout matches in WCW that were just a disaster, and of course we know how the WWF thing went for him until his buddy Undertaker decided to stick up for him and get him another job as Chainz. I think with the right gimmick he would have been something, but no one was ever able to find something to click with him on that level. I know there was rumors at the time of him coming in to do a bodyguard gimmick with someone ala Shawn Michaels/Diesel at various points, but really I think that "big guy who beats up little guys" was pretty much the ceiling for him as a worker by the time SMW was gone anyway. ​
