Hercules face turn seemed to get off to a pretty good start as he was positioned with Hulk and Macho Man to fend off Ted Dibiase and the Twin Towers but within 6 months he was relegated to mid card duty doing jobs for Dino Bravo etc on house shows and within a year was just a little beyond jtts getting an occasional win on syndicated tv over a jobber but a non factor otherwise until teaming with Roma.

Could the face turn have worked better if WWF did not throw him right into matches with guys like Dibiase and instead slowly built him up as a face over several months?

Well speaking as someone who was watching at the time, I didn’t buy him as a Megapower for a second, and clearly he was just a goof there to take the pinfall if they needed someone to lose in six-man matches. I don’t think building it up more would have worked any better, just because the angle was so demeaning to him in the first place. Really they should have waited and teamed him up with Zeus because that would have written itself.
