SS 88 tag team match.

By Scott Keith on August 30, 2015

The double switch didn’t really seems to work live. They cheered fuji getting slammed but we’re confused when powers of pain helped him up. The crowd then popped huge for the powers win. They then hoisted fuji and got a little pop. When demos returned they got booed with some cheers. Gorilla and Jesse didn’t really mention it they acted surprised too. I know they explained what happened after but on that night it almost looked like the crowd thought fuji was turning face not the demos. Thoughts on how they handled the double switch? It seemed rushed?

There was all KINDS of problems with the Powers of Pain, and getting the crowd to boo them when they didn’t want to was one of them. Initially they had brought in Baron Von Raschke to talk for them because Vince had seen all those awesome Baron promos back in the 70s and thought this was a sure-fire heat getter. Of course the problem was that Baron was a HEEL in the 70s, and by 1988 he was cutting promos like a senile old man. So they put him out there with the Powers and then didn’t have him talk, which completely defeated the purpose of even using him in the first place! And then they actually got the Powers over as babyfaces by having them beat everyone Road Warriors-style, but wanted to switch them heel because reasons, and shockingly people didn’t really want to boo them, go figure. Obviously we know there wasn’t going to be any long-term money in those two, but MAN they were basically given zero chance to get over on their own as babyfaces. It was a really weird deal.
