​First up, quick blog announcement: Some wonderful person came up with a Gmail extension called Boomerang, which not only lets me post-date questions like this one, but also lets me do recurring posts to the blog. So I’ve set up an afternoon thread at 12PM CST and an evening thread at 5PM CST, which will automatically post every day from now on. The other upshot is that I can spread out the Q&A posts over the day instead of barreling through them three or four at a time before I run to work in the mornings, which is what I do now.

Anyway, I legit do not ​remember Spivey’s heel run in the WWF, like at all. I vaguely remember seeing the US Express advertised for house shows in Vancouver and getting Spivey teamed up with some random midcard goof instead, but that’s my last memory of him in the company at that point. i would assume your guess is correct, and they just had nothing for him and thus did whatever to let him play out his contract.
