Hall
By Scott Keith on August 17, 2015
Hi Scott
You mentioned in a recent post about Vince not wanting Scott Hall around in 95. Apologies if this is common knowledge / already covered, but could you elaborate on that? Why did Vince want rid of him? Big, built, decent worker… right up Vince’s street I would’ve thought.
Side question: KOTR 95. Mabel. Why?
Thanks
As for the second question, because business was down in 1995 and Vince likes to try big fat guys on top when that happens, ala Hogan beating a parade of giants in the 80s. It just happened that Mabel was the guy he went with, and business had changed. Go figure.
As for Hall, it wasn’t that Vince wanted to be rid of him, it’s that he didn’t trust him on top of the promotion with his drug problems. He was fine with paying him a midcard salary and using him as IC champion, but Hall came to him several times and asked for a bigger push and was blown off each time before finally getting the big money offer from WCW. And frankly Vince would have been stupid to pay him that money because he had no value in the million dollar price range at that point in the WWF. The value was going to WCW as an invader. Even then with all his problems I don’t know that he ever truly justified that giant contract, since he never made it to World title level in WCW either.
