Kevin Dunn
By Scott Keith on August 13, 2015
Hi Scott,
It seems that very little is ever said about the man who has been with WWE seemingly as long as Vince McMahon himself: Kevin Dunn. He appears to have unusual longevity in a volatile business and seems free of repercussion or scrutiny, while holding a tremendous amount of influence over characters and direction.
What’s his deal, how did he come to be in this position, and just how bulletproof is he? How did he avoid becoming an on-air authority character at a point where everyone was? Last but not least is he holding back the product with an out-of-date vision or is he benefiting the business with his years of experience?
Thanks,
Andrew
The famous legend about Dunn is that he was a mid-level director who managed to save hundreds of hours of valuable footage from a car fire one day and thus earned himself a job for life. He’s considered super duper bulletproof, basically Vince’s right hand guy, but completely expendable should Vince ever leave, by which I mean die. He basically dictated the look and filming style of the Attitude Era and thus got all the benefits of it without having to deal with the bullshit that Russo did, so good on him I guess. He ended up with millions of dollars in stock options when they went public, so when he does get the pink slip in the Great HHH Takeover he’ll probably buy TNA or something.
