If the screw job never happens, Bret stays and jobs to Austin at ‘Mania that year, what happens to the Attitude era talent that was big through ’99 – ’01? I can see Rock making it mega-big whoever he’s around, and obviously by then Austin is already your go-to draw. But Foley and HHH? I can see Trips especially having his mega push and heel run delayed to the mid ’00s. Foley perhaps retires around the same time and is remembered as a JTTS footnote? If Shawn isn’t injured either, that top card gets suddenly very full…

​I dunno, I think Bret was pretty sincere in his desire to phase himself out at the top and transition into being more of an office guy sooner or later. Plus he LOVED the Rock and would have bent over backwards to make him into the big star they wanted him to be. But yeah, in a lot of ways the loss of Bret and Shawn really forced Vince to put up or shut up and make new stars out of HHH/Rock/Foley, which is exactly what happened. ​
