“Streaks Are Made To Be Broken”
By Scott Keith on July 22, 2015
Hi, Scott. Did the Undertaker’s "streaks are made to be broken" line on Raw bother you at all? WWE likes to hype worthless records ("half a billion social media followers!"), but the Streak was one of the key storylines at Mania for the past 5-10 years and is one of the defining features of Undertaker’s career.
Even if the statement was true, it just stuck out a bit to me, kind of like if Joe DiMaggio had said, "Sure, Al Smith, I was going to go hitless in a game eventually, but I’m more upset about you talking about my 56-game hitting streak than actually ending it" the next time the Yankees faced the Indians.
I think WWE is doing a decent job to explain Taker’s motivations given the situation it’s in but wish Taker had done a little more to acknowledge the significance of the Streak (to some fans), even something simple like,"the Streak may rest in peace, but the Dead Man is the vengeful reaper" (or whatever that line was on Raw).
I think it’s their best effort to retcon their history and make it seem like they planned the streak thing all along. Like many others, I wish Undertaker had mentioned earlier that he was upset about the streak ending in some form. Even just warning Brock the night after the show that someday he’ll return and exact his terrible revenge.
