Monday Night Open Mic

No need to waste time here. Some WM XXX thoughts

— You take the pre-show match, the opening monologue and Bryan-HHH match and you’re thinking right away we could be looking at a serious contender for the GOAT Wrestlemania.

— The visual of Cesaro slamming Big Show and scooping him up is a credit to both him and Show. Tremendous way to end a pretty fun battle royale and give the next guy some momentum.

— The point of distinction came with Cena-Wyatt. I dug the story they were trying to tell but they couldn’t totally bring it in the ring like we wanted them to. A little quicker on the pace, a little better timing for Cena on the comebacks and a little more work from Bray to give Cena that babyface heat…A couple of adjustments.

— Let’s talk about the streak. I hate that it ended in such a lackluster way but Undertaker doesn’t seem to have much more to give. Maybe he should have given the rub to Punk last year in a great match but whatever. It’s done and the man wanted it done and it definitely guaranteed this Wrestlemania was going to be historic.

— The Wrestlemania I bit….I loved it almost as much as the opening, especially seeing Orndorff looking like the ring announcer in the Apollo-Drago fight from Rocky IV and seeing Piper and Mr. T sort of bury the hatchet. It was really funny and cute and well done.

— And the closing was what we wanted. I hope they do right by Bryan now. He has the ability to give them great matches and great storylines.

— Overall I think the production of this show, from the visuals, the design, graphics, video packages, live performances, sound…it was the best show the WWE has ever produced technically. And it was a great night that bridged the generations in the business. In many ways we closed the book on the past and acknowledged the guys working now as the present and future. We finally saw Austin, Hogan and Rock in the same ring and we saw the streak end and maybe we saw HHH’s last great match and as fans in a business with so many premature deaths we’re blessed to have the main components from the first Wrestlemania available to do that skit and close the book on that part of history (Where was Ace Orton with his broken arm though!!!)  I loved it. I loved it. Might not have the best ever but this one hit a lot of sentimental nerves.
