Just a few random questions that I hope you can answer when time permits.
First, much has been made recently of Vince McMahon constantly being "in the ear" of his announce team. Back in the day, when Monsoon and Ventura were on the mic, was Vince bugging them as much as he does today's guys like Cole and JBL?
I'd say no because Vince was typically already on commentary and would have trusted Gorilla given that he was Vince's right-hand man for a lot of years. He doesn't seem to have turned into a crazed micromanager until after the Monday Night War began.
Second, how did Hulk Hogan end up in such poor physical condition? I don't want to come off as a jerk here, as I know that every wrestler takes their share of punishment. However, it always seemed like Hogan wrestled a low-impact, paint-by-numbers style when compared to many others. I mean, it wasn't like he was going through a table or getting tossed from a cage every week.
Well, Timmy, there's these things called steroids, and while they are great for healing injuries quickly, they also add excess water weight to your frame that your body isn't typically equipped to deal with. Hulk might not have been taking chairs to the head every night, but his hip and knee joints are shot from years of just being Hulk Hogan. Not to mention landing on his hip with the legdrop 250 nights a year for 10 years. It might not be a lot of direct injuries, but it adds up quickly.
Finally, a question that has bugged me for awhile. What was the original plan for Lex Luger in 1990? Would he have still turned face if Sting had not gotten legitimately injured and had to miss time?
It's Lex Luger, he probably would have turned 18 times regardless. I know the face turn was a desperation move, but I don't know if there was any more specific plans for him outside of that. The whole booking team changed anyway when Ole took over, so it's kind of a moot point.
